Franklin Pierce Rolls Past Merrimack, 4-1

Jones nets two in Ravens' third straight victory

RINDGE, N.H. (October 2, 2003) – Senior captain Debbie Jones (Escondido, Calif./Bishops) scored two, including the game winner as the Franklin Pierce field hockey team rolled past Merrimack 4-1 in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action this afternoon.

Freshman Collette Brady (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) opened the scoring with the Raven's first goal of the game at 30:17 in the first. Then Jones made it a 2-0 lead at 28:16 off a pass from classmate Katie Raposa (Tiverton, R.I./Tiverton). Sophomore Laura Blanchard (Rockport, Mass./Rockport) added the third goal of the half, converting on a penalty corner with no time left on the clock.

The Warriors attempted to climb back in the second as junior Laura Kraby (Plainville, Mass./King Phillip) scored on a penalty stroke at 29:15.

Jones scored her second of the game with 2:51 left in regulation to give the Ravens the 4-1 advantage.

Franklin Pierce sophomore goalkeeper, Brandi Guertin (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) made five saves in net and earned the win while Merrimack's Sara Joyce (Hempstead, N.H./Pinkerton) stopped 11 shots.

Franklin Pierce (7-5, 6-5 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts UMass Lowell at 11 a.m. Merrimack (5-6, 2-6NE-10) next travels to Bryant College on Tuesday for a match at 4 p.m.
