White matches single-season win mark with seventh victory on the mound

WORCESTER, Mass. (April 24, 2002) - Franklin Pierce rebounded from a 22-2 shellacking yesterday to Assumption College with a 12-6 victory over the Greyhounds this afternoon at H.L. Rocheleau Field. Junior right-handerJon White (Medford, Mass./Arlington Catholic) matched teammateChris Shank's (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont Regional) single-season school wins record as he claimed his seventh victory (7-3) of the season this afternoon. White allowed three runs, just one earned, on seven hits with five strikeouts and three walks in seven innings of work. Shank set the school-mark when his posted a 7-6 clip as a freshman in 2000. He is also just one win shy of his own mark this spring at 6-1.

Senior Scott Loiseau (Worcester, Mass./St. Peter Marian) sparked the Ravens offense as he hit two-for-four with a double, a homerun, three runs scored and two RBIs on the afternoon. Sophomore Dante Blancarte (Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury) extended his team-best hitting streak to ten games as he hit 2-4 with a homerun, three runs scored and two RBIs. Junior Mike Callahan (Worcester, Mass./St. Peter Marian) finished 2-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs.

Freshman Neil Harrington led Assumption as he hit 2-5 with a homer and three RBIs. Senior Bill Bertrand was 1-5 with two runs, a homer and two RBIs. Freshman Chris Colabello hit 2-2 with an RBI.

Assumption jumped ahead with a single run in the second inning as Colabello laced an RBI single. The Greyhounds lead expanded to 3-0 in the third with a two-run homer from Bertrand.

Franklin Pierce answered with five runs in the fourth to take the lead for good. Loiseau led off the frame with a homerun and Blancarte added a two-out blast two batters later. Callahan belted a two-run double and freshmanEric Cavers (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford Hills) scored on a balk.

Loiseau doubled and scored on a sac fly in the fifth to put the Ravens up 6-3, then they broke the game open in the seventh with five runs. Blancarte laced an RBI single and Shank capped the rally with a two-run homer to put the Ravens up 11-3.

Franklin Pierce (20-15, 12-9 NE-10) returns to action on Friday when it hosts Southern Connecticut State University for a key Conference doubleheader at noon. Assumption (8-25, 5-18 NE-10) hosts American International College on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
