#2 Franklin Pierce Draws With Bryant, 1-1

Ravens tied at home for second straight week RINDGE, N.H.

(October 9, 2002) - Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 2 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, saw sloppy play in its own end result in a game-tying goal as it was forced to settle for a 1-1 draw with Bryant College, ranked fourth in the New England region, in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at Crystal Field this afternoon.

It marks the second time in a week Franklin Pierce has been forced to settle for a tie on its home turf as No. 14 Merrimack College drew the Ravens, 1-1, last Wednesday.

This week, the Ravens were hindered by a sloppy play on the defensive end, which resulted in an equalizing goal in the 68th minute. Franklin Pierce junior goalkeeper Aase Kibsgaard (Korgen, Norway) misplayed a loose ball in front of the net and Bryant sophomore Kristen Harmon was in the right place and netted the game-tying goal from the door step at the 67:38-mark.

The goal came just over six minutes after Franklin Pierce had taken the lead. Senior tri-captain Anumari Ylesmaki (Vantaa, Finland) served a pass through the Bulldogs backline that sent All-American forward Angela Verdoes (Katwijk Aan Zee, Holland) in one-on-one with Bryant junior goalkeeper Christine Richard for the go-ahead goal at the 61:33-mark.

The Ravens had the best bids to win the match down the stretch. Verdoes missed a game winner by inches when she sent a blast that caromed off the crossbar with 14-minutes to play in regulation.

The best chance of overtime came with three-minutes left in the second session when a point blank shot by Franklin Pierce sophomore Meghan Welcome (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) was stopped by Richard.

Richard finished the match with five saves to preserve the tie, while Kibsgaard recorded two stops.

The Ravens posted a 15-7 advantage in shots after logging just one through the opening 45-minutes in a lack-luster first half which saw just three combined shots. Franklin Pierce posted a 4-1 advantage in overtime.

Franklin Pierce (9-0-2, 8-0-2 NE-10) embarks upon a three-match road trip with a match at Bentley College, ranked fifth in New England, on Saturday at 3 p.m.
