EASTON, Mass.(September 8, 2001) - The
Franklin Pierce University Women's field hockey team took a tough
8-0 loss to a very competitive Shippensburg team on Saturday.
Shippensburg opened up the scoring early in the game, as Carli
Border netted a goal at the 25:12 mark of the first half. The
Ravens played strong throughout the first half and held
Shippensburg to one goal until Shippensburg's Hilary Manning and
Kim Foulke scored in the final five minutes of the first half to
put the Raiders up 3-0. Shippensburg would continue the charge and
scored five unanswered goals in the second half.
FPC's Irene Smith (Olivebridge,
N.Y./Onteora) was excellent in goal, as she made 24 saves,
good for third in FP for saves in a single game. Kasey McClements (Ashland,
Mass./Ashland) had eight saves for the Ravens.
The Ravens return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 11, when they face
American International College for their first Northeast-10 matchup
of the season.
