LOWELL, Mass. (Sept. 6, 2001) - The University of Massachusetts Lowell defeated Franklin Pierce College, 3-0 (30-22, 30-21, 30-19) in Northeast-10 Conference volleyball action at Costello Gym tonight.

Freshman Lauren Dufresne and senior Jane Callahan sparked the River Hawks attack as they picked up their first victory of the season in the Conference opener for both. Dufresne totaled 13 kills and three blocks, while Callahan recorded three aces, six digs, seven kills and two blocks. Junior Erin Miller chipped in with nine kills, 12 digs and two aces.

Junior setter Catrina Cuevas (Puyallup, Wash./J.J. O'Neil (N.Y.)) led Franklin Pierce with seven kills, nine assists, 13 digs and block and one service ace. Junior Mandy Johnson (Orange, Mass./Mahar Regional) contributed eight kills, 11 digs and four blocks, while junior Jamie Fulwood (Hamilton, Va./Loudoun Valley) posted eight kills, six digs and one block. Sophomore setter Bethany Findley (Clinton, Conn./Morgan School) finished with eight assists and seven digs.

FP (0-1, 0-1 NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday, September 11, when they host Bryant College for an NE-10 match at 7 p.m.
