RINDGE, N.H. (September 15, 2001) - The
Franklin Pierce University women's field hockey team suffered a
heartbreaking 2-1 loss to C.W. Post on Saturday afternoon.
C.W. Post jumped out to an early lead when Trish Moran (Rockville
Centre, N.Y./Sacred Heart) found a hole on the right side of FP
netminder, Irene Smith
(Olivebridge, N.Y./Onteora), to give the Pioneers the 1-0
advantage at the 10:35 mark of the first half. The Ravens came back
and knotted the score 1-1 when junior Chrystean Page (Turner, Maine/Leavitt)
netted her first goal of the season on a penalty shot at the 10:13
mark of the second half. The gamewinning tally came late in the
second, when Kori Civitillo (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) scored on
a pass from teammate Darlene Davis (Westbury, N.Y./W.T. Clarke) at
the 30:06 mark.
Smith was strong in net for the Ravens, as she made 18 saves, good
for sixth on the all-time saves in a single game list. C.W. Post's
Christy Gardner (Auburn, Maine/Auburn) made four saves for the
Pioneers.
