Irene Smith makes six saves to earn her first shutout of the
year
WINCHENDON, Mass. (October 18, 2001) -
The Franklin Pierce University Women's field hockey team kept their
playoff hopes alive with a 2-0 victory over Saint Anselm College in
a Northeast-10 Conference matchup this afternoon.
The teams played a scoreless first half, but just 3:16 minutes into
the second half, the Ravens got on the board. Junior Kelly Henry (Wyoming, R.I./Chariho
Regional) brought the ball down from midfield and made a
perfect pass from the right side to teammate Stephanie Bradley (Warrington, Pa./Miller
Place N.Y.). Bradley one timed it past Saint Anselm
netminder, Lisa Bellantoni to put the Ravens up by one.
The Ravens struck again at the 25:10 mark of the second half when
Debbie Jones (Escondido,
Calif./Bishops) took a short pass from Bradley and tucked
the ball into the left side of Bellantoni to make the final -- FP
2, Saint Anselm 0.
Senior Irene Smith (Olivebridge,
N.Y./Onteora) was outstanding between the pipes, as she made
six saves for her first shutout of the season. Bellantoni made 11
stops for the Hawks.
Franklin Pierce(6-10, 5-5 NE-10) closes out the regular season on
Monday, when they face Saint Joseph's College in a non-conference
