Ravens Need Early Goal to Edge
Assumption, 1-0
RINDGE, N.H. (September 23, 2000) -
The Franklin Pierce women's soccer team needed an early goal by
Minna Mustonen (Helsinki, Finland) to stand up Saturday during a
1-0 win over Assumption College in the second half of a
Northeast-10 Conference double-header at Crystal Field.
While the Franklin Pierce men's
team was able to wear down Assumption for a 3-0 win in the opener,
the Franklin Pierce women's team was only able to break their
counterparts once despite firing 30 shots.
Mustonen scored the only goal of
the game in the seventh minute when she converted a sharp crossing
pass from Tanja Pihlblad (Lonsboda, Sweden). The goal was the
team-high eighth of the year for the defending NCAA scoring
champion.
While the Ravens (5-0, 3-0 NE-10)
continued to pressure throughout the game, Assumption goalkeeper
Heather McIntosh (Weymouth, Mass.) was up to the task, making 16
saves.
The Greyhounds (2-2-2, 1-2-1 NE-10)
managed two shots, one in each half. Franklin Pierce
goalkeeper Kara Shemeth (Edgartown, Mass,) wasn't called on to make
a save as she recorded her third shutout of the season.
The Ravens have not allowed a goal this year.
While the Greyhounds jump right
back into action Sunday at Bentley, the Ravens have four days off
before hosting Bentley on Thursday.
