Ravens Win Record Fourth Straight Match
WINCHENDON, Mass. (September 19, 2000)
- The Franklin Pierce University field hockey team stretched its
record winning streak to four matches Tuesday by pulling away from
Southern Connecticut State University, 3-1, in a Northeast-10
Conference match.
The Ravens (4-1, 3-0) remained atop the NE-10 as they doubled the
longest previous winning streak in the four-year varsity history of
the program. They have outscored their opponents 15-2 during the
streak.
Southern Connecticut is now 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the NE-10.
Freshman forward Jestina O'Dell
(Southboro, Mass.) scored the game-winner just 18 seconds
into the second half as the Ravens scored on their first attack of
the half to break a 1-1 tie. Sophomore Kelly Henry (Wyoming, R.I.) assisted on
the goal.
Senior Heidi Nichols (Fremont,
N.H.), who was recently named to the NE-10 honor roll, iced
the game with her team-high fifth goal in the 66th minute off an
assist from senior forward Karen
Clarke (Brewster, N.Y.).
Clarke had given FP a 1-0 lead in the third minute of the game off
an assist from Lisa Harris
(Rutland, Mass.), but Southern Connecticut State tied the
game 20 minutes into the half on a goal by Cory Fahy (Trumbull,
Conn.).
The goal, coming off an assist by Lori Rubino (Madison, Conn.) was
the team-high fifth for Fahy.
FP junior goalkeeper Irene Smith
(Olivebridge, N.Y) returned to the lineup after missing
three games with a knee injury and stopped five shots.
