Liam Murphy

Liam Murphy was named Head Coach of the Franklin Pierce University men’s and women’s cross country and track & field programs in June 2025.

Murphy joins Franklin Pierce from American International College (AIC), where he served as head coach of the men’s and women’s cross country teams for the 2024–25 academic year. While at AIC, he worked extensively with distance athletes and played a key role in shaping the program’s recruiting strategies, training structure, and day-to-day operations including practice design, travel logistics, and meet management. His leadership helped enhance both the academic and athletic development of the Yellow Jackets’ student-athletes.

Before his time at AIC, Murphy served as a graduate assistant at Springfield College from 2022–2024, where he coached cross country and distance runners in track & field. During his tenure, he helped guide Kate Bonanno to USTFCCCA All-Mideast Region honors in 2022—marking the first such recognition for a Springfield cross country athlete in over a decade. Both the men's and women's teams also earned USTFCCCA Team Academic Awards under his mentorship.

A former student-athlete himself, Murphy competed in cross country and track & field at Springfield College from 2017–2021. He earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education with a minor in coaching in 2021 and went on to complete a master’s degree in physical education with a concentration in athletic leadership in 2024.
