HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Franklin Pierce opened the game with early energy, grabbing a 5-0 lead following a three-pointer from Demi Albon (Craigeburn, Australia) and a layup from Emily Mennillo (Orange, Conn.). Southern Connecticut responded quickly, using defensive pressure and points off turnovers to edge ahead 14-13 at the end of the first quarter.

  • In the second frame, the Owls capitalized on free throws and transition opportunities to stretch the margin to 33-24 at halftime. Despite baskets from Llorente and a three-pointer by junior Angelisse Melendez (North Providence, R.I.), SCSU went on a late run to take control heading into the break.

  • The Owls continued to build momentum in the third quarter, outscoring the Ravens 16-5 behind second-chance points and interior scoring. Laia Llorente (Madrid, Spain) connected on a three-pointer early in the period, but SCSU's defensive presence helped extend the lead to 49-29 after three.

  • Franklin Pierce found more rhythm in the fourth, with Armani Rivera (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Albon chipping in from the line and Melendez adding another three. However, Southern Connecticut held its advantage throughout to secure the road victory.
