HOW IT HAPPENED
- American International set the tone early, opening the game with a quick three-pointer and building momentum throughout the first quarter. After Nafi Balde (Queens, N.Y.) answered with a putback and Natalie Beaudoin (Lewiston, Maine) knocked down a three to briefly tie the game at 5–5, the Yellow Jackets closed the period on a run to take a 24–12 lead.
- The second quarter proved difficult for Franklin Pierce, as shots were hard to come by and American International capitalized on second-chance opportunities. A three from Liv Murray (Salem, N.H.) provided a spark, but the Ravens were limited to five points in the frame and trailed 42–17 at the break.
- Franklin Pierce came out strong in the third quarter, opening with a layup from Balde and showing improved ball movement and shooting. Back-to-back threes from Angelisse Melendez (North Providence, R.I.) and steady scoring inside helped the Ravens outscore AIC 21–16 in the period, trimming the deficit to 58–38 heading into the fourth.
- The Ravens continued to compete in the final quarter, trading baskets early as Murray and Lova Engren Wiorek (Stockholm, Sweden) converted scoring chances inside and out. American International responded with timely shooting to maintain separation, closing out the 74–50 decision.
BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS
- Murray led the team with 13 points.
- The Ravens shot 32.7% from the field and 31.8% from outside the circle.
