HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Penmen jumped out to an early lead as Madison Hughes hits back-to-back 3-pointers and the Ravens getting on the board from Colette Mulderig (Scranton, Pa.) with a jumper. Down 8-2, the Ravens fought hard to finally take their first lead late in the first quarter with Liv Murray (Salem, N.H) making a 3-pointer.
  • Early in the second quarter, the Ravens set the tone with a 3-pointer by Leanna Heitmann (Syracuse, NY).
  • The Ravens closed the first half with a big lead, fueled by multiple baskets from Janessa Gonzalez (Meriden, Conn.), getting out to a 24 point lead.
  • In the back-and-forth 3rd quarter, the Penmen take a different approach defensively, heading into a full-quart press. This pressured the Ravens into multiple turnovers.
  • With an early timeout, the Ravens adjusted and answered, keeping the game in their hands heading into the 4th. Despites a constant fight from the Penmen, the deficit was too big to come back from.
  • With 1:52 left in the final quarter, Paige Slaven (Long Beach Island, NJ) puts the game away with a layup, enabling Coach Swazey to rest his starters for the rest of the way.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • The Ravens shot 40.7% from the field. Penmen shot 34.5%.
  • The Ravens had 53 rebounds, and the Penmen had 28.
