Men's Soccer Falters in Second-Half, Tie Saint Anselm 3-3

MANCHESTER, N.H. (10/26/24) – Despite jumping out to a 3-1 lead in the first half, the No. 9 Franklin Pierce University Ravens men's soccer team couldn't hold on or the win against the Saint Anselm Hawks in Northeast-10 conference play, settling for a 3-3 tie.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Ravens wasted no time getting on the scoresheet, striking first :37 seconds in. Graduate midfielder Joao Araujo (Madeira, Portugal) fed a cross toward the box and sophomore midfielder Tiago Barriguinha (Alverca, Portugal) fired it home off a volley to give the Ravens the 1-0 lead.  

  • The Hawks responded in the 27th minute to tie the score 1-1. Lucas Bravo Olle capitalized off passes from Michael Provenzano and Yves Maurer.  

  • Just a minute later, the Ravens regained their lead. Joao Araujo added his 2nd assist of the game, connecting with Antonio Lima who buried it to put the Ravens in front 2-1.  

  • The Ravens wouldn't stop there, tacking on to their lead about a minute and a half later. Tiago Barriguinha made it a multi-point performance, assisting on Guillermo Avendano's goal to propel the Ravens to a 3-1 lead entering the halftime break.  

  • The second half wouldn't treat the Ravens as kindly. At 70:38 the Hawks made it interesting, as Chance Prouty found the back of the net courtesy of a Connor Lovely assist.  

  • The Ravens couldn't hold on for dear life. At 87:19 the Hawks scored a stunner thanks to Prouty once again, to level the score at three apiece and earn a shocking tie in Northeast-10 conference play. 

 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Ravens outshot the Hawks 19-6. 

  • Graduate goalkeeper Karl Vernet (Miami, Fla.) earned the tie in net, making 1 save. 

  • The Ravens took 6 corners compared to 4 from the Hawks.  

  • The Ravens committed 8 fouls compared to 13 from the Eagles. 

 

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens have a non-conference matchup with Daemen on Wednesday afternoon (10/26). Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
