Men's Soccer Bounces Back With 1-0 Win at SCSU

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (10/12/24) – The Franklin Pierce Ravens men's soccer team responded nicely on Saturday afternoon after their first loss in 3 years with a 1-0 shutout victory over the Southern Connecticut State Owls in Northeast-10 conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Ravens struck first 25:24 into the first half and controlled the remainder of the game. Sophomore midfielder Tiago Barriguinha (Alverca, Portugal) fired a rising shot from just outside the box and netted the top right corner, lifting the Ravens to the 1-0 victory. 

 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Ravens outshot the Owls 16-5. 

  • Graduate goalkeeper Jamie Colvill (Canvey Island, England) made his first career start with the Ravens and earned the shutout, recording 1 save in goal. 

  • The Ravens took 9 corners compared to 4 from the Owls.  

  • The game was a very chippy affair with the Ravens committing 9 fouls and the Owls committing 15. Both teams each received 3 yellow cards. 

 

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens return home to Sodexo Field on Tuesday night (10/15) for a matchup against the Bentley Falcons that will not count toward Northeast-10 play. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
