Chris Stoker with a team-high three shots for the Ravens on
Wednesday
MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 18, 2013) – Sebastian
Stezewski scored the lone goal of the match 11 minutes in, as
Southern New Hampshire handed the Franklin Pierce University
men's soccer team a tough 1-0 setback on Wednesday night in
Manchester. The Ravens dropped their second straight in falling to
1-3 overall and 0-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Penmen improved
to 3-1 and 1-0 in league play.
Stezewski jumped on a loose ball
off a deflected shot from Christian Rodriguez, and fired home a
strike past Franklin Pierce keeper Sam Meza (Whittier,
Calif.), as it proved to be the only goal SNHU would need
on the night. Rodriguez's initial shot attempt enabled him to
pick up an assist on the play.
The win snapped Franklin
Pierce's six-match unbeaten streak against the Penmen dating
back to the 2010 season.
Southern New Hampshire held a 12-9
advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Meza made three
stops despite falling to 1-3 on the year, while Dom DiMaggio turned
aside all three shots he faced in improving to 3-1 for SNHU.
Graduate students Chris
Stoker (Holden, Mass.) and Ryan Ruffing
(Westborough, Mass.) led the way offensively for Franklin
Pierce with three and two shots, respectively.
Stezewski was one of four Penmen to
total multiple shots during the evening to pace SNHU's
attack.
Franklin Pierce returns to action
Saturday afternoon when the Ravens travel to Springfield, Mass. to
take on American International at 4 p.m.
