BETHLEHEM, Pa. (October 5, 2013) – The Franklin
Pierce University men's cross country team turned in an
impressive sixth place showing out of 46 teams in the College
Men's White race at the prestigious Paul Short Run in
Bethlehem, Pa. on Saturday. The Ravens finished with 218 points in
the race, as the Short Run draws a lengthy list of the
nation's top programs from across all divisions.
Franklin Pierce was the highest
placing Division II school in the white race, and finished ahead of
15 Division I entrants in that specific race of the day's
events. Princeton won the event with a score of 94 points.
The Ravens were led by junior
harrier Antoine Gisore (Concord, N.H.), who placed
seventh out of 372 competitors in a time of 25:27. It marked the
fourth-consecutive race this season that he finished among the
top-10 of the individual standings, while also being the highest
Ravens finisher each time.
Sophomore Makopa Rugabirwa
(Concord, N.H.) was the other Raven to finish among the
top-20 of the individual standings, as he placed 16th
with a time of 25:49.
Rookie B.J. Smith (Concord,
N.H.) placed 43rd with a time of 26:22, while
classmate Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.) followed in
67th in a time of 26:41. Sophomore Colton Ham
(Webster, N.H.) was the fifth Raven to compete and count
towards the team score as he placed 85th with a mark of
26:52.
The Ravens were competing for the
first time in two weeks, as they entered Saturday's event
with three-consecutive wins to open the season. Franklin Pierce has
been the highest Division II finisher in each of its four races the
Ravens have competed in this season.
The men's squad was the only
team to compete at the Short Run on Saturday, as the women's
team was scheduled to run, but its race was called off due to
weather conditions throughout Northeast Pennsylvania.
Both the men's and
women's teams return to action next Saturday when they
compete in the NEICAAA Championships at Franklin Park in Boston,
Mass.
