Freshman Nico Mueller registers team-high four shots
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (September 19,
2012) – The No. 19 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce
University men's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision in
overtime on Wednesday to Bridgeport in Connecticut. The Ravens fell
to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Purple
Knights improved to 3-4.
Matt Garcia scored his first goal
of the season in the fifth minute of overtime to lift Bridgeport to
victory. Garcia flicked in a shot to the far right post off a throw
in from Lee Middleton, who was credited with an assist on the
play.
The stunning loss for Franklin
Pierce came just days after the Ravens knocked off No. 3 Southern
New Hampshire by an identical score of 1-0.
The Ravens outshot Bridgeport 13-4
on Wednesday, but Augustin Prado made three saves to earn the
shutout victory for the Purple Knights and run his record to 3-4 on
the year. His counterpart, Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Jake
Wright (Los Angeles, Calif.), made three saves despite
suffering the loss to fall to 3-2.
Freshman forward Nico
Mueller (Mannheim, Germany) led Franklin Pierce
with four shots, while junior Gareth Dudney (North Andover,
Mass.) followed with three.
Franklin Pierce returns to action
Saturday when the Ravens travel to face Stonehill at 11 a.m.
