Jewel White logs third-straight double-double with 29 points
and 11 rebounds
BOXSCORE
ALBANY, N.Y. (January 8, 2011) -- The No.
24-nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University women's basketball
team dropped a tough 79-74 decision at Saint Rose on Saturday at
Nolan Gymnasium in Albany, N.Y. The Ravens dipped to 10-5 overall
and 6-3 in the Northeast-10, while the Golden Knights improved to
10-3 and 6-3 in league play.
Junior center Jewel White (Worcester, Mass.)
tallied her third-consecutive double-double with 29 points and 11
rebounds to lead three Ravens who scored in double-figures. White
knocked down 12 of the 17 shots she took, as Franklin Pierce shot a
strong 59 percent (31-of-53) from the field. Sophomore forward
Amanda Saab (Windham, N.H.) came off the bench to
toss in a career-high 16 points on a perfect 7-of-7 shooting from
the floor, while junior forward Marielle Giroud (Martigny,
Switzerland) added 11 points. Saab also totaled four
rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Lynsey Timbrouck poured in 21 points to lead four Saint Rose
players who scored in double-figures. Ashley Rath followed with 19
points.
Saint Rose scored six of the first half's final seven points to
take a 37-33 lead into halftime, and the Golden Knights used the
momentum from that surge to open up a nine-point lead early in the
second half at 47-38.
However, Saint Rose could not run and hide from the Ravens as they
mounted a run of their own, which would see them outscore the
Golden Knights, 18-9, over the next seven minutes to knot the game
at 56-56 with 8:17 remaining. White sparked the rally with a layup
on the low block and Saab followed by scoring seven-consecutive
points. Freshman guard Brooke Coderre (Woonsocket,
R.I.) also added four points during the surge and Saab
capped the rally with a driving layup to knot the score.
After a pair of Saint Rose free throws, Franklin Pierce tied the
score again at 58 as White laid in a basket. But the Ravens could
not get the go-ahead basket in the closing minutes as Saint Rose
opened up a seven-point lead moments later to cruise on for the
win.
The Ravens out-rebounded Saint Rose by a count of 31-26, but the
Golden Knights were able to force Franklin Pierce into 21 turnovers
while only committing 12 themselves. Saint Rose also shot a solid
48 percent (28-of-58) from the field.
Franklin Pierce returns home Tuesday night when the Ravens play
host to New Haven at 5:30 p.m. at The Fieldhouse in Rindge.
